It can be so hard to tell the difference between the right and wrong sides of fabric sometimes, particularly on a plain woven fabric that is not printed!

First, lets talk about the elephant in the room...

"Can you use any side of the fabric?" - Well my answer is yes!

If you just so happen to like the 'wrong' side better, use it! Your'e the designer and you can create whatever you want, that's the point of sewing!

But there are some pointers I can help with to get you on the right track to being able to tell the difference between the right and wrong sides of fabric.

The look and feel..

The right side is usually more brighter, shinier, the print can appear crisper in look, it usually appears smoother

The wrong side can appear duller in color, maybe not printed at all, it might be rougher in texture.

Be sure to watch the video for all the examples, and for my secrete tip if all else fails on how to tell the difference!

I hope this helps you find the right side for your next project!

Let me know what you found the most useful!

Until next time...
Bye

I have printed fabric that looks the same on both sides, however the selvage has the name of the company on it. Would that be the right or wrong side? That wasn’t mentioned in your video.
