Seeking a superstar for a part-time subcontract position. It is approximately 5-10 hours per week and is a remote role so you can be anywhere in the world! This role is best suited to someone who is a gifted writer, loves being the class note taker and transforming video information into the written word.

The main function of this role will be to assist with the editing, production, and scheduling of all sewing related content the company produces (including Vintage Sewing School, YouTube and other social media). Which will include initial concept idea, editing and proofing, translating video content into other written formats such as lesson summaries, printable PDF’s, social media posts, email newsletters through to the coordinating and scheduling of all content in line with deadlines.
 
This role is for someone who is at least advanced beginner garment sewer or above. The role does not require expert sewing knowledge, but you need to know enough about garment sewing to understand the sewing concepts being shown via video, and you will have a natural ability to turn that video content into easy-to-understand written content.

You will have exceptional skills in proof reading and copy writing, especially step by step education type content. Be well organized and have the responsibility of making sure all projects are completed to deadlines and published to schedule.
 
This position is best suited to someone who wants to shine in small company and grow their position as the company grows.
 

Duties include:

  • Creating lesson summaries for VSS content released each month. 
  • Converting video content into easy-to-understand written lesson summaries or steps to follow, along with screenshots to capture key moments to use as images to accompany lesson summaries.
  • Further converting content into printable workbooks or cheat sheets. Design skills in producing the PDF’S not essential but favorable.
  • Reviewing videos and proofreading all copy. (Experience with Premier Pro editing software not essential but willingness to learn the very basics for reviewing purposes is.)
  • Writing and scheduling of bi-monthly email newsletters to students.
  • Acting as an admin and facilitator in the VSS community.
  • Writing descriptions and scheduling YouTube videos.
  • Writing and scheduling of social media posts and blog posts to promote YouTube videos.

You will have:

  • A natural skill for being able to dissect complex sewing instructions or information and a knack for being able to break it down into easy to digest step by step instructions. 
  • Prior experience writing content for a crafting field favourable. Or prior experience creating content for online learning platforms such as creating curriculums, lesson preparation, writing step by step instructions, or creating step by step processes are all favourable.
  • Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sewing – You don’t have to be an expert sewist, you just have to know enough about sewing to decipher and repurpose the technical information given.
  • Experience with using the major social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Ticktock etc. And ability to learn the programs and platforms the company use such as Thinkific, Circle, Convertkit, Asana, Planoly, Dropbox, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, etc.
  • Excellent copy writing, proof-reading, and editing ability.
